St. Maarten—A shooting in the vicinity of the Star Mart gas station on the Bush Road early Sunday morning has left one man nursing gunshot wounds to the chest according to unconfirmed reports.

The bullet is said to have allegedly narrowly missed the victims’ heart and came out of his left shoulder after entering through his chest. Reports reaching this newspaper indicate that following the shooting, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning the injured man drove himself to the St. Maarten Medical Center where he received treatment for the injuries he sustained.

Police officials are said to have been alerted of the incident and several witnesses claim to have noticed the car that was driven by the victim to the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) being investigated by the police outside of the SMMC. Reports have also surfaced of police investigators tagging shells on the public road where the incident is said to have taken place.

While the reasons for this latest act of violence is unclear, indications are that the injured man, who is said to have been driving in the direction of the roundabout, was shot by a person in a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction—in the lane heading to Cayhill.

The police is said to be investigating this incident.
