Leak from confidential Cft-meeting

St. Maarten – The Board financial supervision (Cft) is confident that future consultation with the Parliament in Curacao will be held in total confidence,” the organization stated in a press release issued yesterday afternoon. The statement follows reports about a leak from a meeting between the Cft and the permanent parliamentary finance committee in Willemstad on September 4.

Former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin – a suspect in the Maximus-investigation into the brains behind the assassination of Pueblo Soberano leader Helmin Wiels – played an audio fragment from this meeting during an interview with Radio Mas on Thursday.

Alex Rosaria, leader of coalition partner Pais, speaks in this fragment about the mismanagement by the Schotte cabinet between 2010 and 2012. Cft-chairman Age Bakker responds that he has never used the word mismanagement.

Schotte’s party Movementu Futuro Kòrsou (MFK) used the broadcast to show that there was no mismanagement when it led the first Government of Country Curacao.

Rosaria told the Antilliaans Dagblad that this is misleading: “I did not ask Bakker whether there was mismanagement. Those were my words and I am not going to discuss them any further. There are enough indications that there was mismanagement during that period. We received an instruction, and negative reviews from Standard and Poor’s. It is not worth it to discuss this with someone who has no clue about finance.”

Worse than Jamaloodin playing the recording is the fact that a Member of Parliament made a recording during the meeting, Rosaria said. According to the Antilliaans Dagblad, Rosaria will no longer take part in other meetings of the parliamentary finance committee. One member of the Cft has indicated that he (or she) never wants to meet with the Parliament in Curacao in a similar setting again.

The Cft stated in its press release that publishing statements from the closed-door meeting “is not in line with the private nature of this consultation. It is important to exchange ideas in confidence, without political or publicity considerations playing a role. The Cft is an independent advisor of the government entities of Curacao, including the Parliament, and the Cft plays no political role whatsoever.”
