Laser 101 celebrates 20 years with massive bash

St. Maarten – “Everybody has a surprise,” Gee Money of Laser 101 said yesterday, as the station hosted the representatives, or the “four families,” as he put it, of St. Maarten nightlife – Bliss, Tantra, Le Shore, and Soggy Dollar Bar – live on air to gear up for the station’s 20th anniversary bash on November 30th at the Port de Plaisance pavilion. Representatives from the island’s major nightclubs convened at the studios to brainstorm and promote the upcoming party.

Laser 101’s Jennifer Carty has dubbed the pavilion area the “Laserdome.” Each club will have a DJ under their own tent. “Come out and support your favorite bar. Support all bars,” Carty said. “We’ve worked with everyone.”

The idea is “to have one crazy party” at the resort’s central pavilion, divided into four separate “mini-clubs” within the “Laserdome” area showcasing each club’s style and music flavor, Carty explained. Kurt Luckert, also known as DJ Bossman, of Soggy Dollar Bar said, “It’s something special having all the clubs coming together. I think it’s going to be great.” Like the other clubs, he too promises a surprise that night for party goers. Mr. T of Le Shore simply said “It’s a secret” as to what his club will be doing that night when asked by Gee Money. Bliss and Tantra also have something in store for party goers.

For now, it’s all still hush-hush for the participants, including UTS. Marketing manager for the company Ivy Lambert did, however, state that Chippie will be having lots of activities planned for the night.

There is a competition of sorts for the best DJ of the night too. Nelson de Lima, also of the station, said, “Laser 101 will decide the best club with a $5,000 prize of advertising with the station.” Though Carty said the spirit of the event will be more of camaraderie than outright competition and is intended to be a fun night for all guests.
