Labour department and TelEm meet todayPOSTED: 03/9/15 6:56 PM
St. Maarten —Officials of the Labour Department are carded to meet today with management of TelEm to discuss the Surinamese workers contracted to work for the company, allegedly without proper legal documents.
Labour office representatives are said to have visited TelEm’s offices yesterday following reports of the illegal workers, but the workers were not in the building at the time. Hudson Evers of the local telecommunications union that is at loggerheads with the company over the contract given to the foreign workers, said yesterday that it is his understanding that management of the company instructed the workers not to show up to the office yesterday.
According to Evers the management has since made arrangements to meet with the labour office officials today.
