St. Maarten News – Ombudsman, Dr. Nilda Arduin and her colleagues from Curaçao and the Netherlands will facilitate workshops for the civil servants on Sint Maarten on June 27 and 28.
As a follow-up to agreements made last year in Aruba to meet yearly to discuss matters of mutual interest and concerns, the first formal annual meeting of the National Ombudsmen of the Dutch Kingdom will be held on Sint Maarten from June 27 to 29. With the focus of Dr. Arduin in 2016 on the constant element in government, the civil service core, the presence of the Ombudsmen of Curaçao and the Netherlands on Sint Maarten will be used to organize sessions for civil servants and for High Councils of State.
The topics that will be covered are politics and administration, internal complaint handling and understanding propriety and standards of proper conduct. The selected topics are in keeping with the Ombudsman’s theme for this year “Gearing towards excellence.”
In particular, secretaries-general, department and sector heads, policy makers and civil servants who deal with the public have been invited to participate in the sessions.
On June 28 there is a session with the other High Councils of State. For this event, the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands, Reinier van Zutphen will speak on the topic: “The role of the Ombudsman in a democracy and its relation to other bodies of the state.”
