St. Maarten – The Inter-parliamentary Kingdom consultation that begins Tuesday and continues until Friday will begin with a fifteen opening session today, before delegates head to the Princess Juliana International Airport and Winair. Each delegation leader is expected to make brief remarks at the opening session.
The delegations from Curacao and Aruba arrived Monday and were welcomed by President of Parliament Gracita Arrindell at their arrival on Monday and spent the afternoon doing courtesy calls on the Governor and Prime Minister. Delegation leaders then had a presidium meeting to discuss the agenda.
All of the plenary conference sessions, set to take place at Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort, will be aired live on Pearl 98.1 FM Radio and www.pearlfmradio.com. National Alliance Member of Parliament Louie Laveist had requested this be done during a discussion the January 6 debate on the budget for the meeting. The first session to be aired is Tuesday afternoon’s discussion on the action points for the June 2011 Inter-parliamentary Kingdom consultation, which was held in the Hague and air transport in the region – specifically ticket prices, duties and airport taxes. The MPs will also receive a presentation from TNO. This discussion was requested by the Aruban delegation.
The discussions on Wednesday will focus on Healthcare, Youth and Youngsters, and the first part of a discussion on the Charter and the procedure to come to Kingdom Laws that will focus on the handling of such laws and their termination.
On Thursday morning parties will have part two of the discussion on the Charter and Kingdom laws. This second part will focus on regulation on how to handle differences of opinion and the so called “guarantee function.” MPs return to the discussion table Thursday afternoon to discuss good governance and integrity in each of the countries.
The wrap up discussions on Friday morning will focus on the date, place and agenda for the next Inter-parliamentary Kingdom consultation.
The planned site visits include tours of the Princess Juliana International Airport and Winair on Tuesday, the St. Maarten Medical Center on Wednesday and the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities on Thursday.
