Justice Minister Duncan swears in 17 new officers

St. Maarten – Seventeen police officers were sworn in by Justice Minister Roland Duncan on Wednesday. Thirteen of them are cadets from the Basic Police Training and four of them are from the Netherlands.

The 13 cadets have finished enough modules in their training that they can be sworn in to make arrests and write out citations. The four officers from the Netherlands are part of a reinforcement team that will total 20 officers. The addition of this group means there are now nine officers from the Netherlands serving here.

“The police department would like to welcome and congratulate our colleagues,” a release from the interim police spokesman G. Sprott stated.
