St. Maarten —The Job Fair at the National Institute of Professional Advancement organized by the St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association, attracted more than 150 job seekers on Saturday. SHTA Executive Director Ricardo Perez said that the SHTA has an obligation and the responsibility to give back to the community.

One of the ways of doing this is by putting together job seekers and employers so that there would be a one on one dialogue,” said Perez. He said that he was very impressed with the turnout of mainly young people. He encouraged more people to attend such activities when they are seeking employment. He said that the response of the employers and jobseekers were very positive.

Several of the jobseekers who attended other job fairs complained that after they had filled out the application forms they were never contacted about the openings at the different businesses. However, one of the business-representatives said that sometimes when they want to contact jobseekers they can never be found. “They should use their initiative and contact the businesses where they have applied to two weeks later.”

Saturday’s job fair included several sessions to teach jobseekers how to apply, how to dress and how to write a resume.
