St. Maarten – Journey for Education held its cheque presentation ceremony for students receiving supplementary grants from the Foundation last Friday. The presentation was held during a short ceremony at the office of Michmar Agencies on the A.T. Illidge Road.

Four students received funds from the foundation this year. These students are Latania Richardson, Alexi Flanders, Trudy Blijden & Rudy Brooks. All four students are pursuing tertiary education. JFE President Rolande Tobias explained how challenging raising funds is with the economic challenges and the many foundations with similar objectives. He indicated that although the foundation would have loved to assist more of the applicants, sufficient funds had not been secured to do so. Nonetheless, he said JFE was pleased to be able to still provide students with funds to assist them as they aspire to earn their degrees. The only requirement JFE would like to see is that the students return to St. Maarten and put their education to use in building the country.
Students and parents expressed appreciation for the funds received and indicated that it is good that the foundation still exists and is able to assist.
Journey for Education Foundation’s purpose is the provision of supplementary funding for students seeking tertiary education. The foundation raises funds through its annual walkathon in the spring and a gala dinner during the month of November.
