GREAT BAY – The president of the St. Maarten Seniors and Pensioners Association Raymond Jessurun has applauded government on the initiative of the Caribbean Wellness Day that promoted active movement for the elderly, health and physical therapy. The day of activities at the White and Yellow Cross last Saturday was filled with activities with the seniors doing simple exercises such as walking, using their hands and dancing.

“The exercises are fun and it is a good way to promote movement to keep yourself sharp and  give one the opportunity to keep flexible,” said Jessurun, who is also the founder and current secretary of the St. Maarten Alzheimer Foundation. The day also offered testing of the strength of their fists by squeezing a special piece of equipment.

“They should look into the complete health and wellness of seniors, including the spiritual, emotional and mental aspect and what is affecting them,” Jessurun said. He called on the organizers to address emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
