St. Maarten – Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Silveria Jacobs has pledged to ensure that students are informed well in time of the absolute final decision on their study financing applications before the preparatory Vobas course begins near the end of the month (June 25 to June 29) and before they travel on July 29. The minister and the study financing committee are busy reviewing the applications in order to bring the expenses back in line with the budget and because certain students did not meet the criteria. There is also a group that still has to submit final exam marks before the application can be handled.

“Currently the preparations are ongoing for the students and that is progressing very well,” the minister said.

The assurance that all would be completed on time was made at Wednesday’s Council of Ministers press briefing – Jacobs’ first since becoming minister. She also used the occasion to provide an assurance that St. Maarten Student Support Services will provide continued service to students in the Netherlands despite the recent sacking of the director drs Marva Richardson.

“I have received a letter from the board of S4 guaranteeing that the service to our students is continuous. In the coming days a letter will be dispatched to Holland requesting a full report on the events that led up to the discontinuation of the contract of the former director and the findings of the coach,” Jacobs said.
