Interscholastic soccer tournament kicks off

St. Maarten – Latent skills will be identified and players with prior experience will be striving for excellence once more when 2013 interscholastic school tournament organized by the St Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation, SMSEF kicks off at the Johan Cruijff Court in Belevedere on Saturday January 26, from 8:30 AM.

This year’s tournament is very significant for the SMSEF who will be celebrating their 20th anniversary and in recognition of this milestone, they will be focusing during this tournament on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and promoting gender equity in sports.

Invitations have already been sent out to the various schools to register boys and girls between the ages 6 to 15 to participate in the tournament. Currently, 13 schools have already registered one or more teams to participate in the different categories.

Specifically, seven and under, nine and under, 11 and under, 13 and under, 15 and under, Champions League (a selection 12 and under of a schools best players) and Girls. The tournament will be held at the court from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm on the following Saturdays.

Jan 26 Opening Day (see attached schedule for more information about special Opening Day activities)Feb 2, 9, 23,Mar 2, 9, 16, 23, Apr 6, 13, May 4, 18, 25 and Jun 1st, final day, which brings it to a total of 14 playing days and there will be no matches during the school vacation.
