St. Maarten – Insel Air has announced it will add a third flight per week between St. Maarten and San Juan on April 15. The new flight will be operated on Tuesday. At the moment the airline flies the route on Fridays and Sundays.

Insel first started flying the route between St. Maarten and Puerto Rico with two weekly flights in April 2009 and credit the coming additional service to high demand on the route. They’ve also built up the route in such a way that passengers will be able to connect to the airline’s newest destination: Medellin, Colombia. Service to that destination also officially begins on April 15.

“Puerto Rico and St. Maarten are beautiful destinations for a short stay, but also islands with great business possibilities,” Insel’s Chief of International & General Affairs Edward Heerenveen wrote in a statement to promote the launch of the new service.

Heerenveen also announced the launch of a special weekend fare between St. Maarten and Puerto Rico that will retail for $177 dollars. The regular fare will be $265 dollars, excluding airport (transfer) tax.

It has also been announced that Charlotte, North Carolina will be added as a destination in the summer. The city is the hub for US Airways, with which Insel has a partnership and offers connections to and from all of Insel’s current destinations. There are also plans to create “bigger brand awareness in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Haiti, Jamaica, Las Piedras, Medellin, Miami, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, St. Maarten, Suriname and Valencia.
