Inmates sound the alarm over Pointe Blanche sewage water

GREAT BAY – Pictures apparently made by an inmate at the Pointe Blanche prison suggest that there is sewage water running over the floors in several parts of the facility. Using the email address, the inmate emailed ten pictures to this newspaper, accompanied by a brief message.
“Please see enclosed pictures of the sewage water flooding in prison today,” the message begins. “Renovation was promised for decades. Former Director Ricardo stated to the court that the renovation would start on June 24, 2012. Nothing has happened up to this day, while funds were provided and prisoners were transferred to Simpson Bay for this reason.”
“As you can see,” the inmate wrote with a reference to the pictures, “the situation worsens and has reached extremely unhealthy living conditions for the prisoners and (unhealthy) working conditions for the prison staff.”
The inmate notes in his email that complaints were filed with the hygiene department and public works. “If I understand correctly, hygiene (the department – ed.) already went up for inspection.” He closes the email with the wish that our newspaper will make the pictures and the underlying problem public.
This weekend, the hygiene department could obviously not be reached for a comment.
