Increased security at courthouse

POSTED: 07/19/12 12:13 PM

St. Maarten – Security was beefed up at the courthouse yesterday afternoon before the court appearance of two robbery-suspects, Gilbert Ch. and Johan Alberto R. All visitors to the courtroom, journalists included, had their bags subjected to a thorough search. Police officers confiscated one pair of scissors from an unidentified visitor.
Security checks are rare at the Philipsburg courthouse and when they do occur, they usually indicate that law enforcement considers the suspects a risk, or that visitors to the courthouse could pose a potential risk to the suspects.
Security checks are standard procedure at the courthouse in Marigot.
