St. Maarten – Education Minister Patricia Lourens received the first copy of the Hype-agenda yesterday morning from coordinator Zulayka Peterson during a press conference at the government administration Building. The agenda, produced for students and by students is for the 2014-2015 school year. The government will buy 200 copies and give them to students who are going to further their studies abroad.

Peterson said that students had been actively involved in the production of the agenda. “They determined the information they wanted to see reflected in the publication. They conducted research and wrote most of the enlightening articles and profiles that appear in the agenda.”

The agenda is the product of Voice of the Youth St. Maarten in collaboration with students. Articles cover information about topics like school vacation dates, study financing and safe sex.

The agenda’s theme however is career options. Two poems appear on the first pages, written by the prizewinners of the poetry contest. LeeAnn Wyatt, a 13-year old from St. Dominic High School writes about her career choice in journalism.

The agenda furthermore contains brief profiles from students and teachers from high schools in St. Maarten, Saba and Statia.
