All is quiet on the weather front right now. One system (the cross to the left of the map) near the Texan border has a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone. Elsewhere tropical depressions eight and nine produce wind speeds of 35 miles per hour. Hurricane Gaston is safely in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, moving slowly north with wind speeds of 110 miles per hour.
Later this week, something may come of a system that has just left off the African coast. The National Hurricane Center projects a 50 percent chance of developing a tropical cyclone within the next five days. The system is moving at 15 to 20 miles per hour but yesterday it was still unclear which direction it would take. Image National Hurricane Center, Miami
