Hope gets its signatures and goes to electionsPOSTED: 08/19/16 1:07 PM
St.maarten – There will be hope after all: at 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon Mercedes van der Waals-Wyatt’s party Helping Our People Excel (Hope) had collected 213 signatures to support is list of candidates for the September 26 elections.
Last week the other eight parties passed the test, but Hope fell short of the required 146 signatures and could show only 66. Now the party will be eligible to take part in the elections.
Van der Waals-Wyatt was elated with the result. “There was a steady flow of people throughout the day and at 12.28 p.m. we had already reached the required number of signatures,” she said in a press statement. “Giving us this chance to partake in the elections is a way of showing that people are open for change.”
Hope fields just three candidates on its list; apart from party leader Van der Waals-Wyatt, they are Loekie Morales and Jacinto Mock.
