St. Maarten – “It is my hope that our new King Willem-Alexander will visit the Caribbean part of the Kingdom as often as our Queen Beatrix did during her reign” said John Mathias Hodge who received his Royal Decoration as a Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau in 2003.

He described Beatrix as “a humble lady” who loves the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and its people. “It is because of this fact the people loved their Queen. Whenever she visited, she has always found time for the youth,” said Hodge.

“With King Willem-Alexander taking the helm of the Kingdom is history, the people will be happy and we look forward to the continuous support from the Kingdom”, Hodge continued. He spoke extensively of the support that these islands have been receiving from the Kingdom in the form of “technical support” and as a result we should learn to appreciate what they have done for us.

He feels that there is need to continue building on the cooperation within the Kingdom since he sees this as one of the biggest problems that the islands face. With King Willem-Alexander being a younger person, he is of the opinion that he will be able to do much more for the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
