GREAT BAY, St. Maarten – Ombudsman Nilda Lynch-Arduin hopes a meeting last Friday will lead to the approval and execution of several projects that the Bureau has put forward. The Bureau of the Ombudsman had experienced delays with several projects, including the purchase of a vehicle and equipment. Those delays impacted the Bureau’s ability to function.

Last Friday’s meeting was attended by the other High Councils of State, Foundation Development Netherlands Antilles (SONA) Board Member Mike Alexander and the Director of the Implementing Foundation Development Netherlands Antilles (USONA) Reginaldo Dorand and representatives of the Department of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BAK). The latter three agencies are involved because they play a role in the implementation of the Institutional Strengthening Program where the funding for the High Councils of State comes from.

Information Exchange
The Ombudsman has also continued with her weekly Information Exchange Sessions by meeting the Ministry of Finance on Monday. The acting Secretary General Sherry Hazel used the meeting to outline the ministry’s organization structure, while acting Island Receiver Minerva Gumbs gave an explanation of the department’s tasks and the Director of the Tax Office Geert Bergsma gave an outline of the projects that have been implemented or that are under review with the goal of improving the functioning of the tax department.
