St. Maarten – Deputy Prime Minister Thedore Heyliger stressed the importance of education on Sunday in a message on the eve of the 2011/2012 academic year that begins today. Heyliger has also thanked all the teachers, volunteers and administrators “who work so hard to make every school-year a success.”
“With a new school year comes renewed sense of responsibility which comes to the students from the teachers. I look forward that our nation’s school-going youth will experience another meaningful and engaging academic school year,” Heyliger said.
The deputy prime minister stressed that no democracy and no country sustains itself or enjoys stability and prosperity, without an educated populace.
“Education offers the hope of a better tomorrow. The goal of our nation’s educational system is to provide excellent education for every child in every classroom. For the new school year, everyone has a role to play. We must all work together to support our teachers and parents and together we accelerate achievement for our children,” Heyliger added.
“I would like to wish all the students good luck in the new school year. A quality education is the foundation that allows our children to pursue their dreams as adults as the journey continues,” Heyliger concluded.
