Heyliger confirms status Laville

St. Maarten – United People’s party-leader Theo Heyliger is the only one so far to comment on the screening process of the candidate ministers for the third Wescot-Williams cabinet. Answering questions from this newspaper, Heyliger indirectly confirmed that Independent MP Laville, the former faction leader of the UP, failed to pass the screening.

“The agreement that UP had with Mr. Laville was that he would become minister in order for his seat to go back to the party, at which time I would then come in as an MP. Unfortunately he will now nominate a candidate for minister other than himself,” Heyliger wrote, adding that this changes things, “as I am still without a seat in parliament.”

However, the UP-leader said that there are more important concerns to deal with right now: “The most important issue to me at this time is getting the new council of ministers to swear in so that government can continue to function. A lot needs to be done; among them the budgets 2013 and 2014.”

Laville has not responded to an email with pertinent questions about his status. Outgoing Prime Minister and formateur Wescot-Williams has also not reacted to questions about Laville’s situation.
