Gynecologist shot twice at Yogesh Building

POSTED: 11/28/13 12:25 PM

St. Maarten – Gynecologist Dr. Randall Friday was shot twice by an unknown gunman yesterday morning around 8.45 a.m. in front of the Yogesh Building on the A.J.C. Brouwers Road where he has his practice on the second floor.

According to witnesses, Friday was attacked shortly after he exited his car and was on his way to the long corridor that leads to his office at the other end of the building.

Instead of waiting for an ambulance Friday was whisked away in a private car to the St. Maarten Medical Center, where he received emergency surgery. The extent of his injuries has not been made public, but a police report stated last night that the victim was out of surgery and in the intensive care unit for recovery and observation.

When police arrived on the scene Friday was already at the hospital. Officers secured the crime scene and immediately restricted entry to the doorway that leads to the second floor where Friday’s office is located. The forensic department began collecting evidence.

The medical center reported to the police that the victim was in stable condition when he arrived, but he later underwent surgery.

While the investigations were going on, a huge group that included relatives and close friends of Friday, turned up at the St Maarten Medical Center.

The police stated in its report that no one has been arrested or identified as a suspect yet. “The investigation is in its preliminary stages. The police are asking anyone who may have information in connection with this investigation to come forward.”

The detective department’s phone number is 542 22 22, extension 222 of 224; the number of the tipline is 9300.
