Government restates commitment to HIV/Aids program

St. Maarten – Members of the HIV/Aids Steering Committee met with the HIV/AIDS Programme Management Team at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday afternoon to discuss and make decisions on the final End of Project Evaluation Report for the HIV Program 2007 -2011. The group also discussed the revised HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan 2012-2016 and the HIV/AIDS Work Plan 2012, the committee’s priorities for 2012 and the re-appointment of members to the HIV/AIDS Coordinating team and the Steering Committee for the next strategic discussions planning cycle 2012 – 2016.

Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams, who chaired the meeting, placed in the context of government’s commitment to curb the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its consequences for our society.

“Much focus in being placed on the multi-sectoral approach, as the impact of this disease on our island goes beyond the health sector. The Minister of Labor, Health and Social Development is Vice Chair of the SC-HIV/Aids,” Wescott-Williams said on Tuesday.
