St. Maarten – The people he loved, established friendships with, worked with, worked for and associated with were testimony to the hundreds that turned up at the Royal Funeral Home & Crematorium to pay their last respects to the close relatives of the late Karl Rudolf Arndell, aka ‘Tall Boy.’
‘Tall Boy’s wife Lia Arndell had the honor of identifying the close family members of ‘Tall Boy’ after the sympathizers had filed past the open casket bearing his remains. Among them were Peter Arndell, his son, Touvia Francisca Arndell-Boone, his daughter who resides in the USA, Euel E. Boston who lives in Norway, Linda Hamlet, also from the USA and his grandson, Khalil Malik Smith-Arndell, from the USA.
So immense was the turn out that the funeral home was packed to capacity. However there were additional seating arrangements outside and mourners there too were afforded an opportunity to witness what was taking place inside via close circuit television.
Tall Boy who was born in Aruba may have held many positions since his arrival on St Maarten. His ever presence at the baseball field was highly visible. His service to the sporting community and Carnival was invaluable along with his job in the legal fraternity.
But what stands out the most is his role in the Tanny & The Boys string band which he was associated for most of his life. The members of the band were also present to play a final tune for a legend who will be missed by many.
