St. Maarten – Glen Carty will return to his former job as Chief Executive Officer for the Eastern Caribbean for telecom provider UTS.
Carty left two years ago to become the second director of UTS in Curacao, but last week Earl Balborda, Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning decided that UTS ought to continue with one director and that Carty’s contract would not be renewed.
“I had a 1-year contract that was extended for another year,” Carty stated in a reaction to this newspaper. “The present board requested a thirds extension. I agreed if it would only be for four months because UTS Eastern Caribbean will undergo some changes and see exciting challenges soon.”

Carty added that the new government in Curacao’s vision is to have one CEO per government-owned company. “So all in all that worked out well. When my contract ended on February 28, my transfer back home as the CEO of Eastern Caribbean was the way to go.”
Carty stated that he will fly back home this week in the company of Minister Balborda who will meet with several ministers here.
“It was a great experience,” Carty stated about his 2-year stint in Curacao. “But UTS Eastern Caribbean can make better use of me now. What I went to do was carried out.”
