Fun miles throw surprise party

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao – Last Friday, Fun Miles celebrated its 15th birthday. The Fun Miles crew chartered a bus and visited the partners that have been with the program since the beginning in 1998. These companies were treated to a full surprise party with brass band, cupcakes, and prizes for cardholders.

Fifteen years ago, Fun Miles started out with just six partners on Curacao. It has since grown into the Caribbean’s biggest customer reward program, with more than 150 partner locations and nearly 150.000 members on five islands. During the coming months, Fun Miles will keep celebrating with prizes, special offers and plenty of surprises.

For the celebration of 15 years, a busload of Fun Miles employees made festive stops at the partners who have been part of the program since the beginning: Kooyman, ENNIA, Mensing’s Caminada, Techniek & Design, Botica Sta. Maria, Wulfsen & Wulfsen, Fort Nassau, Curaçao Sea Aquarium and McDonald’s. Several other prominent partners were also visited: MCB, Albert Heijn, UTS and ASOGAS.

The Fun Miles team showed up unannounced and treated the staff to cupcakes. A brass band provided the appropriate ‘ambient’ and Fun Miles cardholders who just happened to be present received 15.000 Miles or a fun giveaway. It was a day of surprised and smiling faces, in keeping with the philosophy that has made Fun Miles a success for 15 years.

On February 1 1998, Fun Miles started out modesty. A small number of local premium brands decided that it would be a good idea to join forces and encourage customer loyalty with a reward points system. It was an instant hit. Consumers quickly understood that the free miles enabled them to obtain all kinds of fun stuff. This led to the famous slogan ‘Fun within your reach’ in 2004. The original colors green and yellow made way for dynamic red and yellow. The number of partners grew rapidly, and Fun Miles started expanding to other islands: Aruba (2004), Bonaire (2000), St. Maarten (2006) and St. Eustatius (2012). Through the years, Fun Miles has always been characterized by innovation, both in terms of technology and creative marketing. Highlights included legendary end-of-year campaigns such as ‘Fun Miles Millionaire’, ‘The FunStones’ and ‘FunGo!’, as well as initiatives like the Fun Conference, where international marketing experts gave free presentations to local businesses. The theme that unifies everything that Fun Miles does is simply: ‘fun’. Since 1998, cardholders have redeemed their Fun Miles for millions of fun items and experiences. They have used them to shop, travel, dine, party, attend concerts, go to the movies, enjoy spa treatments, and much more.

During the coming months, Fun Miles will keep celebrating its 15th birthday. Cardholders will be able to enjoy monthly Fun Treats: incredible special offers. Tickets for popular events will be available at an extra discount, and cardholders who have been with the program for 15 years can win fun prizes. The fun never stops, and Fun Miles is already looking forward to another fifteen years of fun.
