GREAT BAY, St. Maarten – Cynthia Rosilia, who lives at #19 Montevideo Road, Union Farm is now utterly frustrated after 10 years of having to live in a closed up house and dodge sewerage when she goes outside. A large part of her frustration is the fact that the Hygiene Department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, the Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning, Environment and Infrastructure, the Police and the Public Prosecutor’s office have not given a satisfactory response to her complaints.
“I am living in raw sewerage and that is something that has been affecting me for the past ten years. I have not received any improvements and it keeps getting worse,” Rosilia said.
Rosilia most recently lodged a complaint against here neighbor at the Hygiene Department by meeting with Cedric Ortega who reportedly told her she needed to complain at the Ministry of Vromi. When she went to that ministry at least two people told her that the Hygiene Department is the agency responsible or that she should file a report with the police.
“It’s like they’re just playing dice with me. I don’t think that it is a police matter, I think I did what I had to do. I went to the right departments and I am not getting anywhere, but this is how our system works. They just drive you to do things and then put you away,” Rosilia said.
The upset woman is convinced the sewage is coming for her neighbor’s yard and is angered all the more because her neighbor seems not to care that she’s going through “an unbearable situation.”
“The woman just said to me, ‘and what’s your problem.’ I have to deal with this every day. I have to pick my way to get to my door and I can’t even allow my dog to walk around in the yard,” Rosilia said.
In an attempt to solve the problem Rosilia purchased a load of dirt and spread it over her yard, but the sewage water over took that and she’s back in the same position. She’s now appealing for a solution.
“All I want those people to do is to fix their problem,” Rosilia said.
