St. Maarten – The President of France, Francois Hollande will chair a regional meeting in Martinique on May 9, dedicated to the preparation for the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) for the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change. A day earlier, on Friday May 8, the president will arrive in transit at Princess Juliana International Airport for a connecting flight to Martinique.
The office of the French president stated in a press release that Hollande “will bring together states and territories of the Caribbean, among them the French Outermost Regions.”
The objective of the summit is to list the initiatives of the Caribbean region that must be “integrated in a schedule of solutions adapted to the specifics of these territories,” the press release states.
The summit furthermore aims “at contributing to the writing of an ambitious and global agreement that must be adopted during COP21.” This conference will be held towards the end of the year in Paris.
