St. Maarten – The French side authorities submitted a request for judicial assistance to the prosecutor’s office in Philipsburg yesterday, following a shooting in French Quarter on Sunday morning whereby 24-year-old Arinaldo Hanley was killed.

The prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the question whether the French had requested the arrest of a suspect.

The internet was buzzing this weekend with comments that identified a man nicknamed Flashlight as the shooter. There were also death threats at the address of this man.

A suspect named Flashlight (real name Clinton Alphonso H.) was sentenced in October of last year in the Court in First Instance in Philipsburg to a 7-month prison sentence for his involvement in a fight in Nazareth. Flashlight had gone with two friends with similar illustrious nicknames – Cashmoney (Leroy Ignatius Adonis K.) and Flamingo (Rolando Cecil A.) to the Sao Paolo road in Nazareth to reclaim a stolen motorbike.

The encounter deteriorated in an ordinary street fight whereby the three men pelted their victim with rocks and even with bicycle parts. Flamingo committed most of the violence and was sentenced to 10 months, Cashmoney got 8 months and Flashlight 7 months.
