St. Maarten – The free HIV testing day at Scotia Bank drew a near record of 175 participants on Saturday. Aids Foundation President Gerard van Osch was pleased with the turnout, especially because this was a stand-alone testing day without surrounding activities. The results of the tests will be incorporated in statistic data.

Van Osch said that the attitude of the people in St. Maarten towards HIV-testing is slowly taking a turn for the better. “Some years ago we held free tests and we saw over a couple of weeks only eleven people. Now we had 175, and these people where waiting in line and having a good time together.”

It was the fourth year in a row that Scotia Bank facilitated a free testing day. The Aids Foundation worked from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon with a tram of fifty volunteers, many of them medical students of the American University of the Caribbean.
