St. Maarten – Twenty year old Stephanie Fraites went through an on stage transformation and won from a field of five after getting the joint approval from a panel of judges when the curtains went down on the 2012 Pre Miss Caraibes Hibiscus last Saturday night at the Belvedere Community Center.

After winning the sashes for Miss Photogenic, Amity and Popularity Fraites’s chances of winning had improved dramatically. But to put the icing on the cake, she also won the trophy and sash for best stage interview and was awarded 58 points and best cultural wear for an additional 60 points and at the end of it all, she had a total of 421 points.

“I am the shyest of the group, I can’t believe I won, this is like a dream,” Fraites blurted out while fighting back tears of joy a few minutes after she was crowned by Miurica G. Williams, the 2008 queen and congratulated by Minister of Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Silveria Jacobs.

Occupying the 1st runner up spot was Caroline Paredes with 407 points and she also won the trophy for the best swim wear with 131 points and best evening gown with 132 points. The second runner up prize went to Shiela Jose with 381 points, Diana Thomas was the third runner up with 326 points and in fourth was Alejandra Sprott on 297.

For the cultural wear and speech segment, the contestants were judged on their skills, workmanship, extent design, materiel, originality and appropriateness. For speech segment where the theme of the night was ‘Paradise On Earth’, they were judged on articulation, self-expression and personality.

In the swim wear segment, they were judged on fitness, muscle tone, body proportion, confidence and grace. For the evening gown segment, they were judged on stage presence, grace, poise and elegance and for the stage interview, articulation, clarity and the ability to converse was the key when they were all asked a question by one of the judges and a second by the moderator of the night. However, the first question was selected after looking at the bios of the contestants.

Fraites, former MPC student who is employed at the Sonesta  Maho as a ‘Great Experience Agent’ has the physique that matches her aspirations, because she wants to become an accountant and own her business eventually.’

But now, this ‘Great Experience Agent’ will certainly have a lot to tell the 24 other contestants when they come on stage for the 22nd edition of the Miss Caraibes Hibiscus which takes place at the Casino Royale on December 10 and with a lot of help and little bit of luck, she just may end up in the top five.
