Former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin released

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao – The Judge of Instruction in Curacao released former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin yesterday morning, because there are insufficient reasons to prolong his detention, Elisa Koek reports on Caribisch Netwerk. Jamaloodin was arrested on July 24 as a suspect in the Maximum-investigation that focuses on those who ordered the assassination of Pueblo Soberano leader Helmin Wiels.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office says that Jamaloodin remains a suspect. “The Judge of Instruction wrote in his decision that there is still a suspicion against Jamaloodin.”

Jamaloodin’s attorney submitted a request to release his client on Friday, but the court rejected it. Lottery boss Robbie dos Santos, who was also arrested in connection with the Wiels-assassination, was released already on Friday.

The prosecutor’s office considers appealing the Judge of Instruction’s decision at the Common Court of Justice.
