St. Maarten – After a brief hiatus from the game of basketball since he vacated the seat as President of the St Maarten Basketball Association, Daniel Berry will be organizing a tournament which is expected to run for seven months.
The Berry’s Invitational Tournament is a series of basketball games that will be held between top teams that have been invited to compete only. In this case only veteran teams and specific B class and A class teams are invited to this tournament.
A maximum of five teams per division are allowed to participate. Three divisions will be selected for a total of fifteen teams. Part one of this tournament is a double elimination held over a three to four week period and teams taking part must get at least a week rest in between each tournament game.
Teams reaching the final round may have to play more often depending on their success. Part 2 of this tournament is a double round-robin each team plays each other two times. Each team must have at least eight players.
The most important thing is that players must have participated in the previous tournament, (2010 Dutch or French) and that players must not have any unresolved issues with the St. Maarten Basketball Association (SBBA) Dutch or French sides.
Each team participating in this tournament must have a coach and at least eight players. Each team must have read and understood the rules and regulation stipulated in the Official Basketball Rules 2008 approved by FIBA’s central board. Electronic copies will be provided to each team for their perusal. Each team must have the proper uniforms.
