Lions to the rescue

St. Maarten – The Lions Club of St. Maarten in conjunction with the SBS and MNO Vervat presented Lucrecia Gumbs who lost her home in a recent fire with all the material to rebuild her home. The club initiated the effort after Gumb’s employer Holland House Beach Resort sought their assistance.
First-Vice District Governor for District 60b Claudius Buncamper said he immediately contacted the management of MNO Vervat when he received the request and they were able to get all the building materials and household appliances.
Buncamper has now pledged to continue assisting the family.
“We are looking to find some donors who could assist with the school books and other things for the family. Now that the materials are ready we are looking for the builders to get you back on your feet,” he said.
“When you see a company jump into helping an employee, it means that the employee is exemplary,” he added.
MNO Vervat representative Dennis Vanek said they are always willing to donate on special occasions like these and commended the Lions Club for their work.
The management of Holland House also thanked the sponsors and particularly the St. Maarten Lions Club for the assistance they gave to the employee assist persons and promised to help Gumbs until the “end of the journey.”
