St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams says the recently concluded Caribbean HIV Conference in the Bahamas was “very successful” in terms of the meetings’ content and the St. Maarten’s contributions. Those contributions include presentations from various delegation members on the cooperation that has been built on financing the HIV response here. The prime minister also made three presentations at three key sessions.

The projects presented in oral presentations were the [RED] Campaign and the Stronger Together Red Ribbon Campaign. There was also a poster presentation on the Girl Power Program. All of these were labeled local projects that have now taken on a regional context.

“It remains for all Caribbean countries, I dare say, an issue of generating sufficient funds to adequately address the HIV/AIDS response in the Caribbean, and so for many years on St. Maarten we have had quite some success in creating partnership as far as the creating of funds is concerned,” Wescot-Williams said.

The majority of the delegation to the conference returned on Tuesday with the Prime Minister. St. Maarten’s 14 member delegation was part of over 2, 500 delegates at the meeting.
