Finance minister replaces senior civil servant

POSTED: 01/24/13 10:14 AM

St. Maarten – A senior civil servant within the Ministry of Finance will be replaced as of February 1. Finance Minister Roland Tuitt yesterday disclosed that he had conducted a meeting with the female civil servant but because the matter is being treated as an internal one he will not disclose the identity of the civil servant. Although relieved of her present post, the civil servant will remain within the civil service.

Today understands that the civil servant, S.H, is among the highest ranks of the minister’s cabinet and the move to relieve her of her position is in connection with the Taxand scam over which she presided. The Council of Ministers is still to say whether it plans to take legal action against the consultant that is at the heart of the Taxand scandal and all other players within the Ministry’s senior administration who allowed a massive fraud of state funds for the restructuring of the tax system to take place.
