Finance Minister Gibson orders screening Central Bank topPOSTED: 07/4/16 8:11 PM
St. Maarten News – Minister of Finance Richard Gibson wants to end the rumors and innuendos about the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten once and for all and for this purpose he has asked the national security service VDSM to screen the bank’s President Dr. Emsley tromp and the other members of the board of directors. Gibson has also asked his counterpart José Jardim in Curacao to initiate a similar investigation by the national security service in Curacao.
Since the establishment of the Central Bank per 10-10-10 its president and others directors have never been screened as the law prescribes.
“I have lamented the rumors and innuendos about the Central Bank,” Minister Gibson said. “They are vexing and they tarnish people’s reputations. This is why I have asked the VDSM to conduct an integrity investigation.”
The Central Bank must have an aura of integrity, Minister Gibson said. “This investigation will have to confirm or eliminate these rumors once and for all. The law requires this screening and as a general step, this is a normal course of action. Curacao and St. Maarten jointly own the Central Bank and therefore this requires both ministers of finance to act.”
