Ferron resigns as Regatta Steering Committee Chair

St. Maarten – Co-founder of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Robbie Ferron is stepping down as the event’s Steering Committee Chairman with immediate effect. The event’s co-chair John Gifford will take over.
Ferron is standing down because his views on the future organization of the event differ from those of the Board of Directors of the St Maarten Regatta Foundation, which is the organizing entity. The departure will not affect the day to day operations and organization as they will still be handled by Regatta Director Heather Tackling and Assistant Director Michele Korteweg.
Even though he’s standing down from organizing the sailing event he will continue to participate in sailing and the organizing of sailing events.
Regatta organizers also announced Monday that entries are ahead of the 2011 numbers to date and that they are looking forward to another successful regatta.
