WILLEMSTAD – Eline de Pool, recently crowned as Miss Curacao, may lose her crown because her father, her brother, her uncle and two of her cousins were arrested last Saturday for drugs and weapons possession. The 19-year-old won with her title the right to represent Curacao at the Miss Supranational pageant in Byelorussia in November, but the local organization is now contemplating to send someone else, the Antilliaans Dagblad reported.

Elsewhere in Curacao, Nardy Cramm wrote in a letter to the Versgeperst website that De Pool has decided to go to Beyelorussia anyway. De Pool declined to comment to the media: “I do not find it necessary to react to this,” she said.

The police in Willemstad said that they have been working for some time on the Scorpio-investigation that targets the De Pool-family. The Bureau for organized crime together with the drugs division and the Detective Collaboration Team RST and the customs department conducted several house searches on Saturday under the direction of a Judge of Instruction. Officers arrested six suspects.

One man was arrested after he attempted to escape the police in a black Mercedes. The driver, 27-year-old G.M.D. de P. crashed his car into a house before officers could take him in. In the car they found seven packages of cocaine.

Ten minutes later police arrested 59-year-old E.B. de P. and 71-year-old D.J. de P.  House searches near the Piscadera Bay Resort, on Caracasbaaiweg and in Brakkeput Mei Mei yielded marijuana, hashish and ecstasy pills. Police detained a teenager of 17 and a 23-year old man. The latter was released after questioning.

Police also confiscated a luxury car, three firearms and live ammunition.
