Exterior renovation St. Maarten courthouse complete

St. Maarten – The exterior renovation of the courthouse in Philipsburg, St. Maarten has been completed and yesterday the court celebrated the new look with a simple celebration. The president of the common Court of Justice, mr. Liesbeth Hoefdraad and Justice Minister Roland Duncan were among those present to mark the event.

The courthouse was repainted in white with green trim, and the Coat of Arms of the Netherlands Antilles was replaced with that of country St. Maarten.

Next step in the renovation is the interior, especially the wooden floors of the historic building. The contractor is preparing a bid for this job.

While the building now stands proud and fresh in its new coat of paint, one element still needs some attention and that is the clock. When we took a picture at two minutes to four, the clock read ten minutes to five. When we took another picture sixteen minutes later, the clock had moved right along, but it remained almost an hour fast.
