St. Maarten – The nine Members of Parliament who were not reelected during last year’s election cost the tax payers close to 811,000 guilders ($453,000) in the first year after 10-10-14. This appears from the annual report of the parliament that was released yesterday.
The nine members who did not return to parliament are Gracita Arrindell, Leroy de Weever, Patrick Illidge, Romaine Laville, Sylvia Meyers-Olivacce, Louie Laveist, Roy Marlin, Hyacinth Richardson and Jules James.
Of these nine, Leroy de Weever, Patrick Illidge, Romaine Laville and Sylvia Meyers-Olivacce did not take part in the 2014 elections. While they opted out of a political career voluntarily, they are still entitled to a political pension for a maximum of two years.
