St. Maarten – The Sonesta Maho Resort, the official venue for the 2013 VXG Games is just one of the places that will be buzzing with excitement when 380 gamers representing 48 countries converge on St Maarten.

The St Maarten Video X Games Foundation which was established in 2006, is dedicated to use technology and one of the ways in which to attract more people to the island which depends on its influx of tourists. Over the past few months, they have been working feverishly to ensure that the event runs off smoothly and without a hitch.

The tournament which will involve players from as far as Brazil, Columbia, Asia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Sweden, Holland and Morocco will take on a double elimination format.

According to Rolando Bryson, the Vice President of the St Maarten Video Games Foundation, the entries which is still pouring in has surpassed the previous entry from the games which was held in 2012 and that clearly shows the growth and development of the game at the competitive level.

The plans for the daily events and activities was clearly outlined during a press conference which was held at the Sonesta Maho Resort yesterday afternoon and cheered by Bryson, Ivy Lambert, a representative of Caribeserve, Christopher Hatala, the current animation director and founding President of Massive Black and Triforce Johnson, a gamer who has since retired, was described as the world’s most patient gamer from Jamaica, now residing in the United States.

“We are very pleased with the turn out, it’s time for the biggest event for the Summer, not only in terms of gaming but also for the parties and the festivities,” Bryson said. With the help from Caribeserve, the title sponsors, the organizers will be making communication easier for the visiting gamers in the form of 350 sim cards.

“Last year was really great and we started talking with the team right after that one was wrapped up because we sensed that it was going to get bigger and already we can see that they will be pulling off yet another big event and we have to commend them for that.” Lambert said.

According to Lambert, Caribeserve has increased their support this year financially and also in the area of communication by offering the bandwidth for the live streams, on the spot sim card sales and sim card welcome packages at local rates that will allow the visitors to maintain contact with their relatives.

Hatala, aka ‘Cris Galion’ who is also the tournament director for these games, expressed his heart felt appreciation to be able to officiate in the 2013 games. “I have been running my own special event for the past seven years and we invented our own formula for running huge events. I am looking forward to bringing that formula to VXG,” he stated during his brief introduction.

Ironically, of the 380 gamers, over 180 will be representing the United States and Johnson, of Empire Arcadia said that he too was extremely happy to be associated with the VXG games. “Video X games is the first corner stone for media entertainment and tourism on St Maarten, I want to congratulate Bryson and the rest of the organizing team and I see this move as futuristic for the benefit of the island, Johnson said. Bryson also took the opportunity to applaud the efforts of Independent MP Romaine Laville for helping to make the staging of the games possible.

The activities will kick off officially with a huge welcome party at Soggy Dollar this evening and every night, there will be planned activities for the visitors. The final  registrations will take place on Thursday, online registrations will not take place after that date.
