St. Maarten – Coast Guard officers pulled the lifeless body of 43-year-old Andy Santos Valero, originally from the Philippines, from the Simpson Bay Lagoon on Saturday. He’d been reported missing by J.M.K, the captain of the yacht “Summer Wind” at 7:00 a.m.

Earlier on Saturday – 3:00 a.m. the Gendarmerie, called the yacht and told the captain that a man staying at Flamboyant Hotel in St. Martin had reported spotting a dinghy from his boat after hearing a noise. Even though the motor was still running, the boat was empty. The captain confirmed that Valero, an engineer, had left in a dinghy and had not returned.

After the early morning report was filed police contacted the Coast Guard and a search was started. They eventually found the body near a buoy and brought it back to shore, where Dr. Mercuur pronounced him dead.

Police have surmised that Valero collided with the buoy as he made his way back to the yacht and extended their condolences to the family.
