Emilio Wilson Estate purchase in limbo

St. Maarten – No progress has been made by the government in terms of moving forward with the purchase of the Emilio Wilson Estate. Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams yesterday said that government has not changed its mind about buying the historical property “but neither have we moved forward with respect to the purchasing.”
She revealed that the estate’s representative Henri Brookson continues to remind both herself and the deputy prime minister of the need to make a decision soon but no formal contact has been established.
She explained that since the purchase would require capital financing, it is “tied up in not only the budget of 2013 but the one for 2012 as well. So I think that is where the setback actually is.”
Last month, the Court in First Instance lifted a lien Rainforest Adventures St. Maarten and Rain Forest Tram Limited had placed on the Emilio Wilson Estate on August 6. RFA had already obtained a building permit to develop an attraction park on the estate when the government made an offer of $17 million for the largest part of the estate.
