Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation dismisses Dalton’s arguments

St. Maarten – The Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation has taken notice of the Rain Forest Adventures propaganda by Mr. Dalton in your publication today,” board member Rueben Thompson wrote in a reaction to this newspaper yesterday. “The Foundation is of the opinion that we have already addressed and dispelled the statements Dalton makes. There are numerous examples of successful protected areas that have been established by governments and are managed by NGOs throughout the Dutch- and wider Caribbean. We see no reason why St. Maarten would be unsuccessful in managing a protected area. There is no need to make the Emilio Wilson Estate into a mass-tourism amusement park with very little regard for the island’s natural and cultural heritage as Mr. Dalton so clearly desires.”

Thompson referred to a Youtube video entitled “Local Environmentalists’ thoughts on the Rainforest Adventures Rockland Estate Park Plans for the Emilio Wilson Estate” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbSFe_aosL8 .

The video specifically addresses the Rainforest Adventures plans and is therefore somewhat different from the video released last month titled “the Emilio Wilson Estate” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9XeBvcslGY , Thompson stated.

“We call on government to purchase the Emilio Wilson Estate for the people of St. Maarten as was committed to in August of this year.”
