St. Maarten —A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of 26 -year- old Emilien Kruythoff, just a little over two weeks after his murder by gun shot in Cay Bay.

Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo announced yesterday that a thirty year old male suspect with initials N.A.C had been arrested on Tuesday at approximately 3:15pm on Windsor Road in Cay Bay. According to Henson, a search of the suspects’ residence by police that same day produced a small amount of cocaine and a small caliber handgun. Both have been confiscated by police for further investigation.

Kruytoff died at the St. Maarten Medical Center on September 15th from gunshot wounds he sustained just before midnight on September 14th at the Aaron Jacobs Drive in Cay Bay. The 26-year-old was hit by one or more bullets in the left side of his body. Following the shooting, Kruythoff was placed in a car and was being driven to the St. Maarten Medical Center by a female companion but they were intercepted by the emergency services—who had been called earlier—before their arrival and the victim received medical treatment. However he succumbed to his injuries just after midnight.

At Kruythoffs’ funeral at the Cay Bay cemetery police took one person into custody for illegal gun possession after police received reports that a number of persons attending the funeral would be carrying firearms. Acting on this information several police visited the area and conducted an investigation to locate these firearms. There were reports of several shots being fired in the air at the cemetery during the funeral but that was said to have been done as a mark of respect for the deceased Kruythoff.

Following the arrest of the murder suspect, Henson stated that the investigation will continue.
