Elshot wants schools to beef up athletic programsPOSTED: 07/27/12 12:44 PM
St. Maarten – It is time to look at sports programs in our schools and to set up school competitions, Windward Islands Teachers Union (Witu) president Claire Elshot said yesterday. “I would like to see our schools beef up their athletic programs. We have the facility for it in Cay Hill,” she said.
Elshot made her remarks following a visit to the executive meeting of the Caribbean Union of Teachers in Jamaica where the bi-annual student athletic games also took place. The event showcased the athletic prowess of youngsters in the age between 9 and 15. Barbados was the overall winner in a field of around 15 teams.
“Unfortunately there was no team from St. Maarten. I don’t know where things went wrong, but we’ll have to make all efforts to be there in 2014,” Elshot said.
