St. Maarten – Hector “El Torito” Acosta, who is one of merengue’s biggest stars, headlines Latin Night for Carnival 2012. Latin Night 2012 will be on Saturday, April 28 in Carnival Village. Rising reaggaeton star “Secreto” and legendary Antillean band out of Curacao Ekspresando Ritmo i Ambiente (ERA) will be the opening acts at the concert. Veteran concert promoter Francois “Cuchi” Hunt assures Latin music and Antillean music lovers a great night and has already started promotion for the event on 101.5 f.m. Other stations will be added in the weeks ahead.
Excitement should be high for the man known as El Torito. He is a former singer of los Torros Band with whom the singer enjoyed success and widespread acclaim, enjoying a number of hits during his years as a member, including the landmark album Raices. In 2006, after 15 years under the wings of his artistic mentors Gerardo and Juan Pablo Diaz, El Torito left the group to form his own orchestra. His premier release as a solo artist came in October of the same year.
Sigo Siendo Yo generated radio hits such as “Me Voy” and “Primavera Azul”, which showed up on U.S. and Dominican tropical music charts. Acosta performs all over the States in dance halls, festivals, and clubs alongside some of merengue’s most popular artists. His other albums Mitad, Mitad was released in 2008 followed by Simplemente El Torito in 2009.
For the younger generation, Secreto will bring his upbeat reggaeton vibes to Carnival Village. The young artist has been performing throughout the Caribbean and is currently being hailed as a super star in the making with his brand of music.
To warm up the crowd, Curacao’s 14 member super band ERA, with their ten albums and 35 hit CD’s, will feature lead singer Mellinger “Boy” Thode, who is one of the best known singers of the Antilles. ERA plays all kinds of rhythms including Salsa, Zouk, Merengue, Ballads and Salsa Antiana.
