Editorial: The sooner the better (St. Maarten Govt. Integrity Investigation)

POSTED: 10/7/13 1:01 PM

Reports about the instruction from the Kingdom Council of Ministers to Governor Holiday – and in particular the reaction to it from the government – have spread like wildfire across the Caribbean. Nearing its third anniversary as an autonomous country, St. Maarten is once more headline news – and not in a positive way.

From the analysis in the Antilliaans Dagblad (see our opinion page) we learn that the Transparency International integrity assessment has not brought Curacao what it needed. It is one more argument to support the notion that the investigation our governor has been ordered to commission is necessary.

The analysis focuses on the need for a proper investigation and not on the procedure the Kingdom Council of Ministers followed – and rightly so.

There are plenty of integrity issues to address and the sooner this is done, the better it is for the citizens of our country.
